Well, this weekend is full of surprises!! Glorious sunshine and decided to go out for a nice long walk. As I started out I decided to try my feet on half a marathon - 13.5m or 21.5km. So I thought out a route which I figured would cover the distance and off I went!! Walking at a good pace all the way through, no jogging or running for me, thanks to the dodgy knee.

Back home - VERY tired with legs of led and have measured out on the map my route and imagine my delight when it actually measured up to 21-22km. It took me 3h 52min with half the distance going through woodlands, so done quite well me thinks!

Now where did I put that ice-cream ............. earned me carbs this afternoon!

Well done Alice, old Graham doesn't walk that far in a year.

Well done Alice. :D
I did only 4 miles into town yesterday, on pavement admittedly and my hips and knees are complaining today.
What shoes were you wearing?
I know I wore the wrong ones

I wear my "Peter Storm" walking boots or my Nike trainers, when I walk. I was lucky and got both during sales!

Went out today for my daily 6mile walk, but my hamstring protested after just 4miles, so had to find a bus to get home! Oh well. Good excuse as any for resting I suppose! LOL

Re: I did it, I did it, I did it!! (another milestone)

Postby Vikingepigen » Sun Mar 28, 2010 9:05 pm

Well, I proved I could do .......... but boy am I suffering now!! Started out 10.10am and returned home 18.40 - 8.5 hours and 45km (28miles) later!! A busted left knee and 4 big blisters on my right foot!!  BUT I did it - although I virtually crawled the last mile or so, home - my knee so painful I could barely walk the last few yards home!! Trust me to go off the deep end!!

ANYHOW!!!!!!! Apart from the plasters and the icepack, I am feeling fatquied and wondered if any of our sporty friends and recommend how they recover? I realised I have way too little to eat before setting out and my body seems to be craving food/feeding.

Ideas please - thanks

OMG Alice - are you practising for the marathon? Blisters, pain etc. I am sure some of our sportier members will be along to advise on the best way to recover, while you are waiting I'd recommend a good soak in the bath, a massage (preferably by someone gorgeous  ) and a long, cool drink!

Hi and thanks!

Hot bath is out - I am a shower girl! Sorry! But I did give the feet a nice soak/foot bath! Massage by someone gorgeous is out too - he is rehearsing in London!! Damn!!! Long cool drink - tick!! Very large glass of a nice cold glass of rose to wash down the Dreamfield pasta and Spag Bog!!

But I only had my regular breakfast (two eggs, scrambled w/cream - 1 slice of back bacon, 1 slice of wholemeal toast, Nible of course!) - I took with me, 1 slice of Nible toasted and some tuna may and a chunk of cheese - two bottles of water and a diet coke. 5m from home my legs were turning into stone and I went into a corner shop anpurhcased a regular Tango (organge) and drank over the next mile and it help quite a bit, despite the 25 carbs! :o

Next time I'll have Spag Bog for breakfast and bring the egg and bacon with me! LOL

Boy ........... what was I thinking doing 45km!! I know - daft so-and-so, doing this without prober preparation! And no, I am not practicing for anything - I cannot run, because of the knee - I just wanted to prove to me, that I could do it!
