I agree with Mitch re. as low carb as possible at breakfast. i eat scrambled eggs maybe bacon too during week. Mushrooms are about only carb (sauted in butter) I can take first thing, Weekends I might chuck in a couple of cherry toms and a low carb sausage, I can be more active then - not stuck in car for hours. I have even made Libby's cheesecake - it keeps a week and although it goes against my upbringing I can eat a piece and find it has no more effect on bs than eggs etc, is quick too!

Ditching the carbs was hard work. I still get cravings, especialy at certain times of the month. But I can now tell a carb craving from hunger. It takes time.

You will fall from the wagon, I try to adopt a "harm minimisation" approach when I do this. I try to make the carbs go as far as possible, so I have marzipan chocolate cheesecake on those days when only large quantities of chocolate will do. And pupadoms don't seem to do as much damage to the blood sugar as crisps. I also test to find out how high I go and how long it takes to get back to normal.

You are doing just great. You can't expect to get on top of a lifetime of eating patterns in a couple of weeks.

Thanks to both Mitch and Hana for the above.

It seems Ive just got to try to organise myself a bit better. I do eat irregularly due to my job involving shifts and the patients (bless 'em), but I will say, the guys at work are very good with me and my mealtimes!!
Like you said Hana - I have to build up my knowledge and keep it simple. Good advice, thanks.

Hi Gazza, just a quick suggestion.
I'm working all hours at the moment, getting up at 6 and nose to the grindstone blah blah. No comprimises with the low carb life though. For breakfast I put some butter and a little double cream in a frying pan, warm it up, add 2 large eggs and a handful of cheddar and mix it through. 2 minutes on a medium heat, add a couple of strips of thin bacon or pancetta on top, whack it under a grill for 30 seconds and Bob's yer uncle - a fantastic little omlette that will keep your bs at a good steady level for hours. Proper fast food and a whole lot better for you than any packaged cereal.

Best,

Like all new Year Resolutions Ive made before - I cant stick to them!! Ive decided now is not the right time to start low carbing - health issues, winter miserableness and work/eating balance are some of the reasons for my decision. Thanks all for all the encouragement and tips but Ive decided to leave it til the Spring and get more prepared. Sorry guys, best of luck to you all.

Sorry to hear that, Gazza.
When the time is right, get back in touch, give it a trial for a couple of months, and see how you get on. We'll be here to help you out and all the best in the meantime.
