A very warm welcome John, you are a lucky chap to have someone who is so knowledgeable to hand!
I am sure that you know what a great place this is, we have non diabetic members here too, this place has literally been life changing for me and others - in the best possible way.
Take care - look forwards to 'seeing' you around!

Hi Marie this link will answer your questions.

What do the test results mean?
If your fasting blood glucose level is between 3.6mmol/l and 6mmol/l, this means that your blood glucose level is normal.
If your fasting blood glucose level is 7mmol/l or higher, this is likely to mean that you have diabetes. Diabetes is a long-term condition where the body is not able to control the amount of glucose in the blood.
If your fasting blood glucose level is between 6.1mmol/l and 6.9mmols/l, you may have IFG.

Hey Marie

Pre Diabetes means that I am at risk of developing type 2 diabetes, I have a strong family history of type 2 diabetes; GTT scored 140mg/dl (7.7 mmol/L) which is borderline between normal and pre diabetes.

I am told that at this stage it may still be possible to avoid developing type 2 diabetes, but I am not so sure.
Supporting my type 2 diabetic wife, I have eaten a reasonably lowish carbohydrate diet for around 9 years, now reduced further to around 60 - 70 carbohydrates per day, see how it goes.

Best regards

John

Thanks gents I feel enlightened. I wonder if everyone goes through a "pre" phase. Seems you are luckier than most of us here John to get a chance to take earlier action. Will be fab if it works.
When I was first sent for a fasting test I was only just over the limit at 6.3. My gp did send me for the gtt. Not all do. Post code lottery again. Or gp lottery. I worry that the new gp commissioning model will lead to less testing as they will want to spend less. That's the driver anyway.
So john welcome again and here's to low carbing as the saviour of feet and eyes.
How is the patient?
