welcome on board.

That's marvellous news on the smoking front and with the lowcarb lifestyle you will soon lose your sweet tooth too. There are some lovely goodies in the recipe section for those special occasions and a bowl of berries topped with double cream is the perfect dessert so what is there to miss....

Good luck with your new lifestyle and the better control you will gain.

welcome Vanniebee
I'm a T2, married to a lifelong T1. I would recommend you read Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution.
That shows how a T1( from the age of 12) became a doctor treating diabetics, using low carb and low doses of insulin.

Ps I recommend you ask your library to get it for you. It's not cheap.

Hi Vanniebee,

I am a fellow type 1 who has recently started using this wonderful forum.

I have also done Dafne course and found it very useful. Like you I also came away with the idea that I should be able to adjust my insulin so that I could eat anything.

However that is not the case.
When I completed the course in about 2006 my control did indeed improve for a while, but I put on weight and felt sluggish so and came to the conclusion that all those carbs didn't suit me.
So I now have a pump and use just novorapid. My insulin daily amount has dropped from nearly 40 units to about 24 units.
Now I keep to a moderate carb diet. I don't eat any starchy carbs at all and feel so much better.
I think all type 1s should be able to pump if they want too. But I had to fight for mine.

So welcome. As has been already said we type 1s are outnumbered on here
cheers

Hi Vannibee, welcome from yet another T2 I've been on the Desmond course that you mentioned, unlike Dafne carbs are not an issue I was just told to eat them and cut down the fats, without resorting to expletives I can't say anymore. :D

Cheers
Graham
