Low carb cookbooks

Postby FayE » Fri Dec 11, 2009 12:49 am

I did a Search and the only low carb cookbook mentioned (twice) was Rose Elliot's Vegetarian Low Carb cookbook, which is on my list.

My mother bought me Dr Charles Clark's book, The Diabetes Revolution and Antony Worrall Thompson's Diabetic cookbook which is full of carby cakes I'd never have eaten before I even heard of low carb. :(

I bought Linda Gassenheimer's cookbook, The Low-Carb Bible - anyone used this ? - and I just ordered 500 Low Carb Recipes by Dana Carpender - useful ?

I'm really only really interested in buying vegetarian low carb books, what with being a vegetarian. i have bought a lot of book since my diagnosis in February.

Rose Elliot has written 2 differnt low carb cookery books. I have them both and have made things from both of them. The both have some nice recipies in them.

I also have the veggie low carb book by Celia Brooks Brown, who provided me with the recipe for Chocolate Marzipan Cheesecake and Lemon Macaroon Tart. Very nice book and I will be making more of her recipies. Not an easy to get hold of book as it is out of print, but I paid less than £10 for it.

The Veggie low carb book by Margi DeMello is one I don't use very much, I have looked at it but not made anything from it as the recipies are much higher in carbs than the other three I have. Again out of print.

I also have the Soy Zone by Paul Sears, again I have not made anything from it.

The Anthony Worrall-Thompson book is low GI not low carb (and most of his low GI cookery books are approved by DiabetesUK  ). My opinion of the Charles Clarke recipies was that they were low GI rather than low carb, although the advice in the "science" part of the book is simple, straightforward and well written.

I look in other low carb books and may copy a recipie. I also surf the net and have found some nice low carb cakes on low carb websites. This website is also excellent for recipies, you must try Larssons caulifower cheese and chocfish's celariac dauphinase

I started by looking at a low GI diet abd acquired several low GI books too. I may start to use them once I have got to where I want to be, but they are too carby for me right now.

Hi,

I agree with what's been written the books that I use all the time are Rose Eliott and Karen Barnaby. Some excellent recipes in both.

I do have Linda's G's books bit I rarely use them. I have made things from Anthony's book but they sent my BG levels sky high so I no longer use it. Sad when I think he has metabolic syndrome!

Best wishes

I expect AWT has been getting his information from the DUK site. How to get into double figures without even trying or up your med's big time at a stroke.

I bought the Low Carb Gourmet for someone a few weeks ago and had a good look through it before I handed it over. There were a couple of recipies I liked in it so I will have to borrow it back at some time.

I am currently reading through Karen Barnaby's book. I haven't tried anything yet but she has a lot of recipes that look really good. They don't call for many exotic or hard to find ingredients.

I know it is called "Low Carb Gourmet" but most of the recipes seem really simple.
